The 2022 Batmobile Already Has a Second Release!

Are you guys as fuckin’ pumped as I am to see Edward Cullen as Bruce Wayne as Batman come March of 2022!!?? Ok, there’s some sarcasm spiced around in there but honestly it looks pretty good so far. And remember how the internet broke back when the mantle was passed to Ben Affleck…? Now not only is Affleck lauded for his time as the Caped Crusader, fans are actually petitioning him to keep the cowl in spite of the tenuous nature of the upcoming DCEU.

To be fair, I think nailing the role is difficult because the same actor has to excel at being Batman – the very embodiment of fear – and Bruce Wayne, the aloof, unthreatening playboy devoted to a life of leisure. It’s kinda hard to be a bad Batman. Don’t get me wrong, it takes serious chops to be a really good Batman, but it’s easy to hit acceptable middle ground by just being a theatrical badass. The trick is transitioning from this (and back) into a likable, possibly unremarkable, maybe almost a little boring, Bruce Wayne. Affleck never really had the chance to play this side of Wayne, but we did get to see him without cape and cowl a lot and how the man that can be both Bruce and the Bat acts when he isn’t particularly required to lean hard into one side or the other. He brought a very human and pragmatic vibe to the role, and I also liked how he portrayed an older, war-torn Batman, one whose ideals had perhaps been tainted and eroded but not by a long shot extinguished.

Robert Pattinson will go into the role playing almost the opposite. According to what I’ve heard, The Batman will largely cover Batman’s 2nd year as a vigilante. His ideals will (hopefully) be his main inspiration; however, he will also possess a lot less self-discipline and impulse control, leading to a Batman that is ultimately physically and mentally more vulnerable than the seasoned Dark Knight that we’re mostly accustomed to.

The Batmobile is obviously in its early stages at this point, and although we get a glimpse in the preview, it’s the newish Hot Wheels model that gives us our best first look at this highly modified muscle car.

That was a few weeks ago – but lo and behold, there’s another one on the shelves but it might be easy to pass over if you’re not paying close attention. I nearly passed by it myself. The one we got a couple of months back has a matte black finish, while the one popping up right now is a glossy black. I know, not exactly night and day, but it is of at least marginal importance to some of us out there.

The 'New' New Batmobile

New Batmobile

Shiny vs. Matte

The difference between the “shiny one” and the “matte one” is all but imperceptible here, but if you look hard enough, you can probably see a difference in how the light hits. The one of the left is the new, glossy Batmobile and the one on the right is the slightly older matte version.

I also have another iteration of the 2022 Batmobile in my possession…but we’re saving that for later…

BATMAN Gets a New Hot Wheels 5-Pack in Late 2021

Batman 5-Pack

See, I told you more Batman was in store! Hot Wheels is constantly putting out these little 5-pack sets of similarly themed cars and Batman has been a staple of these releases for years, though it’s been a hot minute since we’ve seen a new one…until now(ish)!

Technically, here’s what we’re looking at:

  • ’11 Dodge Charger R/T
  • Batcopter
  • The Dark Knight Batmobile
  • Bedlam
  • Velocita

The Charger is sort of the black sheep of the bunch…it’s a freakin’ cop car…a police car from Metropolis at that! I mean I get that Batman and Metropolis are all existing in the same fictitious continuity and all that jazz but it feels random. Why not the damn Gotham City Police Department!? Not only is that reflective of where Batman actually lives and operates, but the inclusion is reinforced by the fact that our Caped Crusader often works alongside the police in their endeavors to thwart crime. It’s tantamount to throwing a Keystone City firetruck in a set of Green Arrow vehicles. Don’t make no damn sense.

Ok, so we’re 0 for 1, but we do have the tried ‘n’ true Batcopter coming up. I still don’t know where this design was sourced from, but it’s been around a hella long time and even though we don’t think much about Batman in helicopters this little trinket persists.

Tumbler and Batcopter

In the middle we have the Batmobile that was used in the Dark Knight Trilogy, perhaps better known as the Tumbler. The gimmick here is that it’s presented in a dark blue color, which yeah, we’ve seen before, but maybe this is the first time they’ve stuck it in a 5-pack.

Next up is the Hot Wheels Original Bedlam, an aptly named car decorated after the Joker. This wild and unconventional take on a pickup truck is well-suited to the villain.

The Joker (Bedlam) and Harley Quinn (Velocita)

Last is another HWO, a Velocita, done up in the style of Harley Quinn. The sleek curves of the Velocita are a great compliment to Harley. The artwork is simple but effective and I can appreciate using different colors on opposing sides much like her older outfits. Even the front and rear tires are different colors.

Batman 5-pack

The Harley tribute car is the reason to pick up this 5-pack. It’s a solid artistic vision on a design that feels Harley-ish, a mark that these tributes sometimes miss beyond reproach. It’s also a good way to add a blue Batmobile to your collection if you don’t already have one!

THANOS Gets the “Monster” Treatment

As I desperately wait for the newest wave of Marvel Character Cars to drop somewhere near me, the universe has seen it fit to spit strange little oddities at me from outta nowhere. One of the most recent is the Hot Wheels Monster Truck based on Thanos’ Character Car. The main body is the same Thanos design we’ve known for a few years now, only now it rests atop some giant tires, which I guess is pretty fitting for the Titan.

I do like the visibility of the Infinity Gems right there in the center of the truck bed but I do wish there was a more prominent “glove” element somewhere on the vehicle.

Infinity Gems

I’ve seen these pretty much everywhere for anyone interested and they tend to be in the company of re-releases of both Hulk and Iron Man Monster trucks. So yeah, Thanos + Monster Trucks = I’m all for it. Now we just need to keep our eyes out for the big version…

The Super Mario Crew Welcomes RED YOSHI

Ok I know I said we had loads ‘n’ loads of Batman stuff to get through – and we do, no doubt – but we can take a break here and there to go other stuff backlogged material. This time we’ll take a quick look at the newest member of the Super Mario Character Cars: Red Yoshi.

Red Yoshi Character Car

Are you keeping up with the Mario line…? If so, you’ll probably wonder why Red Yoshi has been released on the heels of Light Blue Yoshi. I mean they didn’t change the design or really anything except for the color. So there you have it, the 11th release in the line of Super Mario Character Cars is Red Yoshi, a red-colored tow truck just like his light blue and green counterparts. Ahead of Wario, ahead of Daisy, ahead of Waluigi, Toadette, Rosalina, and Bowser Jr.

So yeah, short story. Not entirely sure who to blame, but it feels like a cheap cop out.
