First of all, I’d like to reiterate that these are not character cars nor are they really “fake” character cars. These are the ones you see that are like, “inspired” by a certain character. This does not refer to the silk-screened / Pop Culture series nor Retro Entertainment. These are in regular packages, the car is always a “Hot Wheels original,” and it’s typically adorned with graphics of the character, but it’s not really supposed to be the character Does that make any sense? I hate calling them “fake” as if to insinuate that they’re inferior or something, I just dunno what to call them. The term “fake character car” just became an easy way for my son and I to discuss this type of vehicle!
Anyway, recent pics from a toy fair indicate that there will be a new 8-car collection of fake character cars inspired by the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Take a look:
Right next to it we can see a Pop Culture set slated for a summer release, exclusively at Walmart. What I don’t understand is why the placard says “Spider-Man” when it seems clear that the assortment is some sort of ode to female heroines. I’m not 100% sure, but it looks like we’ve got vehicles dedicated to Spider-Woman, She-Hulk, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, and Wasp.
Ok well, that’s all I got for now! We’re still dry on the Character Car front, but as always, when I know, you’ll know! Until then…
