How cool are these guys!? Plugging in search terms – daily – of upcoming cars into eBay really works. A few guys have these up for sale right now, but when I got them, I think the guy had 11 of each, and he ran through them in just a little over 24 hours. These guys got here a couple of days ago and I’m excited to continue building up the Rogue One subset of character cars.
Scarif Stormtrooper Squad Leader
“This special-ops military vehicle can navigate the galaxy’s toughest terrains – just like the Shoretroopers who patrol the Imperial headquarters on Scarif. Sand, dirt, and snow are no match for this vehicle’s massive tires, roaring engine, and rugged design, modeled after the Shoretroopers’ iconic helmet and body armor.”
“This mean, elite machine sports a fearsome grille and utility pack details, while the powerful side blaster is ready to intimidate or annihilate enemies of the Imperial army.”
Has anyone figured out the difference between a Scarif Stormtrooper and a Shoretrooper yet? I guess I should see the movie…hopefully I’ll be doing so next week! Anyway, isn’t this a great looking vehicle? If you’ve seen the “Black Series” figures (there’s 3 – Scarif Stormtrooper, Squad Leader, and Hovertank Pilot) then you can definitely appreciate the detail and color palette used on this car. It’s got more of a rugged look like the Jawa or Tusken Raider vehicles rather than the sporty, sleek look of other troopers. I especially love the included blaster!
Now I just want them to make a regular Scarif Stormtrooper (or Shoretrooper) so that this Squad Leader has an actual squad to lead!
“This powerful truck, like K-2SO, still bears the mark of its dark past – an Imperial symbol. This dutiful droid vehicle is revved and ready to serve the Rebellion’s noble cause.”
“Armed with a robotic focus and piercing headlights, it searches for allies and enemies while chewing up terrains with a jaw-like lower grille. Then the rugged roadster can transport rescued heroes and captured villains in its oversized bed for mission after mission accomplished.”
Even in the package it’s impressive how big K-2SO is. So far this is the first Star Wars flatbed vehicle; Marvel’s had 2 – Groot and Hulkbuster Iron Man – and K-2SO dwarfs both of them. He’s huge! I haven’t quite figured out who’s “supposed” to fit on the back. Like the Marvel cars, several probably can fit, but they’re specifically designed to fit some perfectly, for instance Rocket Raccoon matches up with Groot and Iron Man (1st edition) is a perfect match for Hulkbuster.
We don’t have many characters to try out just yet, but with more Rogue One characters supposedly on the way (specifically Chirrut and Baze) so it’s possible that Hot Wheels just hasn’t answered the question yet. Jyn Erso is a pretty good fit, but there’s an obvious indention in K-2SO where it looks like someone’s hood should snugly fit, and Jyn’s is a bit too high…what do you think?
So yeah, really cool to see these Rogue One character cars start rolling out…they have a gritty, realistic quality that isn’t always present in the other Star Wars cars. A whole slew of Star Wars character cars are still set to come out, spanning everything from the Rebels CGI show to Empire to Jedi and even Force Awakens! So far Baze and Chirrut are the only other ones mentioned from Rogue One though I suspect that a “clean” version of the Death Trooper will also hit shelves as a single, as opposed to the battle-damaged Death Trooper in the 2-pack. Are we going to see the rest of the human crew like Bodhi and Andor? It’s difficult to guess how many “human-based” cars they can churn out, but I am super hopeful for a Krennic character car.
Anyway, that’s all for now! Enjoy these 2 new fellas and let me know if you know something that I don’t!
